Monica Jacobus
Monica JacobusMD, Co-Founder
Dr. Monica Jacobus is a board-certified general surgeon and the co-founder of the Anacortes Center for Integrative & Functional Medicine. Her path in medicine began with a traditional foundation—earning her M.D. from Saint Louis University School of Medicine and completing a five-year general surgery residency at Saint Joseph Mercy Hospital, a Level I Trauma Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Over the years, Dr. Jacobus practiced in hospitals and clinics across the country, caring for patients in both large health systems and small community settings. These diverse experiences deepened her understanding of the strengths of conventional medicine, while also revealing the need for a more holistic, personalized approach—one that considers not only the body, but the mind, environment, and relationships that shape health.

Her philosophy blends the precision of modern surgical training with a commitment to whole-person care. At the Anacortes Center, she envisions a “home” for both patients and practitioners—a place where medicine, nutrition, and human connection form the foundation for lasting wellness.

Dr. Jacobus is deeply committed to equity and community health and believes healing happens best in partnership. Through her work, she strives to create space for listening, learning, and empowering each individual to engage in their own healing journey.

Coming Soon: Primary Care, Redefined Through a Functional Lens

Patients who prefer a more personalized and proactive approach to their health may choose to have our functional medicine physician serve as their Primary Care Provider (PCP). In this model, your doctor not only manages routine exams, prescriptions, and screenings but also applies a root-cause, systems-based perspective to every aspect of your care. This means we look beyond symptoms to understand how lifestyle, nutrition, stress, and physiology interact to influence long-term health outcomes.

Our concierge structure allows for longer visits, same-week access, and direct communication, ensuring your primary care is both comprehensive and deeply individualized. For urgent needs or hospital-based care, we coordinate with local providers and specialists, so you always have a team supporting your health—both inside and outside our clinic.
